Licensing & Procurement

Know where you stand with your Primavera licences.

Primavera licences are easy to get wrong and costly to put right. We give independent advice on licence models, renewals, true-ups and new users, and we start with a free check of what you own against what is actually in use. Ask us a question and you get a straight answer, not a sales quote.

Pick the question that's on your mind.

Each question opens its own hub. You'll see the problems behind it turn into outcomes, and the work that solves each one.

Independent advice, and a free check of where you stand

Primavera licensing is not complicated once someone explains it. Most problems come from nobody owning it: users added in a hurry, a login shared because the new starter could not wait, a renewal signed without checking what is actually in use. We give independent advice on licence models, true-ups, renewals and new-user needs, and we start with a free analysis of your current entitlement against what is in use, to find any non-compliance before it finds you.

What the free check covers

  • We list what you own, meaning your licences and the model each one is under.
  • We record what is actually in use, which means the named users, concurrent users and modules that P6 itself records.
  • We show you where the two differ, and what it would take to close the gap.

What you get

  • You get a short written note that sets out your position, the gaps and your options.
  • There is no obligation. If you want help with the renewal or the true-up afterwards, just ask.

We need another named user next week

A planner starts on Monday and there is no licence for them. The temptation is to share a login, or to set up another one before the licence is issued, and that is the moment most non-compliance begins.

We confirm what you own and what is in use, and tell you whether an existing licence can be reassigned under your model. If it can't, we find the fastest route to a new one, with the renewal and the true-up in mind, so you don't buy twice.

Not sure we're compliant

Lots of teams end up over their licence count without ever deciding to. Some share a login; most just create another account and mean to sort out the licence later. A login is handed to a contractor, a departed planner's account is kept alive, or a module is switched on because it was there. Are you sure it isn't happening in your environment?

The free entitlement check compares what you own with what P6 shows in use. You get a written position that says whether you are compliant, over or unclear, and what to do about each gap. We never recommend sharing logins. We show you how to stop needing to.

The same check also finds the licences you still pay support on that nobody uses. We tell you whether your agreement lets them go to someone who needs them, so the next renewal is decided on evidence, not habit.

Nobody can explain the licence models

Licence models are hard to follow. You may be weighing named user against concurrent, P6 Professional against EPPM, or your current licensing against new cloud products. The person who signed the last renewal has gone, and the quote in front of you uses words nobody in the building can define.

We explain the models in plain language, tell you which one fits how your planners actually work, and show what a true-up or a renewal would look like under each. Before a renewal, we tell you what to true up, what to drop and what to ask for, while there is still time to act. Independent advice means the answer is sometimes fewer licences, not more.

What else should sit beside P6?

P6 holds the schedule. Around it sit the other areas a project team has to think about, and each has a product that covers it. Buy one in a hurry and it can ask more of your P6 configuration and your integrations than anyone expected, so we help you decide what you need before you buy it, which licence it needs and what it will ask of your P6. The free check covers P6 only.

How it works

From a question to a written position

There are four steps, and no obligation at any of them.

  1. 1

    Ask a licensing question

Fill in the form at the bottom of this page. We read every enquiry and aim to be in touch within one business day.

  2. 2

    Your entitlement

You send us the licence agreement or the renewal quote from Oracle or another partner, and we help you validate it.

  3. 3

    What is in use

Your P6 administrator runs a short report for us, or gives us a read-only look at the user list. We compare it with your entitlement across named users, concurrent users and modules.

  4. 4

    Your position, in writing

We tell you in writing whether you are compliant, over or unclear, with the options for each gap. What you do next is your call, and if you want help with the true-up or the renewal, just ask.

Common questions

Questions people ask

Is the entitlement check really free?

Yes. It is one check per organisation, with no obligation, and you get a written position at the end. It is separate from Test us, where we look at one technical problem for free.

Two part-time planners share one login. Is that a problem?

Yes. Oracle licenses P6 per person, not per login, so two people sharing one account need two licences, however little each of them uses it. We never recommend sharing, and the check shows what it would take to stop.

Named user or concurrent?

It depends on how many people use P6 and how often. Our licence models section explains the difference in plain words, and the free check tells you which one fits.

Perpetual or subscription?

A perpetual licence is bought once and kept current with annual support. A subscription is paid for as long as you use it, and Oracle's cloud services come that way. The two only compare over the same years, counting every cost on both sides. If the subscription question comes with a move to the cloud, our Cloud page helps you compare the options and make an informed choice.

Do you cover Unifier and other Oracle products?

We cover Oracle Primavera Cloud as well as P6. For Unifier, Aconex and other Oracle products, ask us and we will tell you plainly what we can help with. The free entitlement check covers P6 only.

What if the check shows we are over?

You decide what happens next. We set out the options, which are to true up, reassign licences, retire accounts or change model. The position is yours and goes to nobody else.

Do you need access to our P6?

Only a little. For the usage side we need a read-only look at the user list, or a report your administrator runs for us.

Licensing problems and configuration problems usually share a cause.

That cause is missing ownership. If nobody owns P6, nobody owns the licences either. If that is the real problem, Primavera Support is the fix, and we will say so.
